San Antonio Drug Ring Busted Open
A drug-running scheme has been discovered right here in San Antonio in where they we trying to ferry marijuana to Detroit. The drug-ring was caught when they were attempting to purchase a pontoon in Texas. They aimed to take the boat and trailer and stuff them with marijuana, which would then be taken up to Detroit. The drug ring was widespread, and police have arrested men and women in Texas, Michigan, California, and Florida in connection with the efforts. A federal two-count indictment was unsealed this week in San Antonio. Five of the defendants are from the San Antonio area, and were charged with a conspiracy to distribute marijuana. Two of the suspects were also charged with a conspiracy to commit money laundering. They have been operating this particular drug ring for three years.
Police officers and DEA agents have sized about 800 marijuana plants in addition to 760 pounds of marijuana. They also found about $1 million that was profits from the drug ring, and nine firearms that were used in defense. The distribution, use of, or trafficking of marijuana is expressly illegal in Texas, and those who tamper with the substance can be seriously prosecuted. Possession of 760 pounds of marijuana would render a second degree felony in this state, which can bring about 2 to 20 years in prison as well as a $10,000 fine. Selling 50 to 2,000 pounds of the drug can bring on up to 99 years in prison and is considered a first degree felony. Selling this narcotic to a minor can bring on an additional 2 to 20 years.
