Government hasn't spent your money the right way

February 7, 2012

President Obama finally answered a question about the legalization of marijuana and released it on YouTube.  Well, he didn't actually answer the question.  It's more like he talked circles around it and turned into your typical blubbering politician.  But, there were two things that you should watch for in the video.

First, Obama said he is against legalization.  No surprise there.  He's a government leader and he has to keep his bureaucracy happy.  Threatening to cut trillions of dollars in funding to support an unwinnable war will not make him any friends with government workers.

Second, he said that the government's has spent too much time on arrest, interdiction and incarceration over the past 30 years, and not enough on shrinking demand.  WHAT?  What is the D.A.R.E. program all about then?  Why has the government spend billions of dollars scaring the living hooligans out of our children and even adults with commercials, videos, and gimmicks.

I have a better idea Mr. President.  Why don't you take the billions spent each year on the drug war and pay off the national debt?  (It wouldn't actually pay off the debt, but it would help.)  Why don't you legalize marijuana and tax it?  Entire industries will surface, people will go back to work, and you will get re-elected in a landslide.  Better yet, people with certain illnesses will find a natural medication that they don't have to take out a home loan to pay for.  All-the-while, you will be reducing the crime levels created by keeping marijuana illegal.

I'm glad you answered the question Mr. President, but your answer shows your lack of knowledge in this area.  Surely you have at least one advisor up there in Washington that can see the point.
