Cocaine Godmother

September 5, 2012

One of America’s most violent and notorious drug kingpins was gunned down on Tuesday by a motorcycle assassin.  The Godmother of Cocaine, Griselda Blanco, was killed in an ironic manner.  It is said she invented the type of execution that killed her when she was in her prime back in the 1970’s and 1980’s.  She was living in Colombia with her only living son and was no longer involved in the drug game.

Blanco is thought to have masterminded over 200 murders during the time of the Cocaine Cowboy Wars in Miami during the 1970s - 1980s.  Her cocaine organization was making about $8 million per month and bringing in over 3,000 pounds of cocaine each year.  The operation reached Miami, to New York and all the way to California.  She had made many enemies over the years because of her vicious killing attacks against anyone who competed with her or challenged her in any way.  Many people are surprised that she wasn’t killed before, as many attempts were made on her life.  Part of her life and details of her organization were documented in the films, Cocaine Cowboys and Cocaine Cowboys 2.

Blanco only served a little less than 20 years combined behind bars for her involvement in various crimes.  She also escaped the death penalty when she was on trial.  After all this time, it is apparent someone was still holding a grudge against her.
