Stress of trial

June 8, 2012

One of the biggest challenges that criminal defendants face is the uncertainty of what will happen in court.  Trials are by definition uncertain.  The State believes they have enough evidence to convict you and you or your lawyer believe they do not.  This uncertainty leads to incredible stress.  People often worry about their freedom, family, jobs, and financial future.  For people with addictions this stress often leads to them using the drug or alcohol of their choice more often than they do in their normal life.  This, of course, leads to more bad decisions.

If you are facing a marijuana or drug charge you might consider entering a rehab facility - even if you do not think you have an addiction issue.  Rehab centers often help you learn new coping mechanisms to life's challenges.  These coping mechanism will be helpful to you during the stress of a criminal trial.  The time of abstinence will help you clear your thoughts and stay focused on what matters most.

If you are absolutely opposed to entering a rehab center, then consider getting counseling during the pendency of your case.  A trained professional can help you have clarity and teach you coping skills that will help alleviate your stress and confusion.  If you have a family that depends on your earnings to pay the bills, then you may consider getting them involved in counseling as well.  If your future is uncertain, their's is as well.

If you have any questions or need suggestions for a center then leave us a note in the comment section below and we will reply.  Have a safe weekend.
